Why it matters

Few issues spark more controversy, emotion, and debate in religious circles than the topic of biblical slavery. Alongside discussions about gender roles, sexuality, hell, and biblical inerrancy, slavery ranks as one of the top five most debated theological issues—and for good reason. It sits at the intersection of morality, history, theology, culture, and for many, it raises uncomfortable questions: Did God endorse slavery? Was biblical slavery just? How could a loving God allow such a system?

The weight of these questions isn’t just academic. For centuries, distorted interpretations of Scripture were used to justify the enslavement of human beings—often with the Church’s silence. Even today, those same passages are weaponized by skeptics or mishandled by believers, leading to confusion, doubt, or even deconstruction of faith.

This is precisely why I wrote Bound in Lies: The Biblical Case Against Slavery.

As someone who has wrestled with these hard questions and seen the damaging effects of theological misinformation, I felt a responsibility to respond. Bound in Lies was written for those who love Scripture but have been shaken by what they've read—or what others have said about it. It's a resource for the faithful and the questioning alike, offering a clear, honest, and biblically grounded answer to one of the most challenging accusations made against the Bible.

Slavery isn’t just a historical issue—it’s a moral litmus test for how we understand God's character, justice, and mercy. And if the Church is to reclaim its moral voice in today’s culture, it must be willing to confront and correct past theological errors. Silence is no longer an option.

If you’ve ever struggled with reconciling the Bible and the topic of slavery—or if you know someone who has—I invite you to explore this book. Let’s confront the controversy, challenge the misconceptions, and uncover the truth that has too long been buried beneath centuries of misinterpretation.

Because the Bible doesn’t endorse slavery. It exposes it.
